I’m in school working towards becoming a Registered Nurse and I also have Genital Herpes so I fit your strict criteria =)

Simple answer is yes, of course. There is no exact answer as to what the percentage is. It honestly depends on many factors. Factors such as how often you experience outbreaks, what type of Genital Herpes do you have HSV-1 or HSV-2, and also if your partner has the virus him or herself.

    My story..
I have contracted Genital Herpes from my boyfriend who has Oral Herpes. He performed oral sex on me during the time he was NOT experiencing an outbreak (no cold sore) and I still contracted the virus.

So, to help you understand I now have HSV-1 Genital Herpes from his HSV-1 Oral Herpes. We have sex often, I am not taking medication for Genital Herpes, we do not use condoms, and he does not have Genital Herpes. The reason for this is most likely because we refrain from sex during the time I experience outbreaks and because he has the Herpes virus in his body already.

It basically comes down to how willing your partner is to risk the chance of developing Oral Herpes. Best advice I could give you is to do your research about the virus with your partner and go from there. If you take medication for Genital Herpes such as Valtrex or Acyclovir the chances of your partner contracting the virus will decrease greatly. Check out Valtrex.com for some information about the pill if you are not already on it.

Good luck! I hope this helps. Feel free to email me if you have any further questions about this or any general questions you may have about the virus.
